And Just Like That….Spring is Here, The VIB Sale, and Love is In the (Aff)air?
A good ol' fashioned public affair, what I would've bought in the Sephora sale, and enjoying Taurus season.
Thanks so much for reading Fries for the Table! Let the espresso martinis flow, flag down the waiter for an extra aioli, and let’s get into it!
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and Taurus season is here. Time to lean into beauty, lethargy, and over-indulgence. After a particularly un-Angeleno winter (an incredulous amount of rain which led to a mega super bloom which will likely lead to a very bad fire season hee hee ha ha climate change.) I think we’re all feeling like this.
Apologies for going MIA the past two weeks, I was throwing my engagement party and spent the following week recovering from my engagement party–as is my right!
Let’s hop right in, there’s so much I’m excited about.
The Sephora VIB Sale
I did not shop the Sephora sale, as all my money is currently going towards #Treva4ever and lil’ specialty beverages from Erewhon.
But here’s what I would’ve bought:
The Staples:
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream $18
I got my fiance, Travis, addicted to this cream when we moved in together. It’s also a fantastic makeup primer, super hydrating, and has almost a whipped texture. I used to buy the mini size to save some coin but am seeing it’s gone up by $6?! What is going ON in this world?
Innisfree Pore Clearing Facial Cleanser $14
I think this was originally a Travis purchase which I then stole from him, and now we run out constantly. If I could buy this cleanser in a Costco-size mayo jar with a pump, I would. If you have textured skin or breakouts (specifically blackheads) this is holy grail. In true KBeauty fashion, it feels very spa-like and smells divine, too.
OUAI Hair Oil $30
God bless Jen Atkin. Did I have to unfollow her on IG because her voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard and her house looks like a staged, beige Kardashian nightmare and she posts too many “manifest your way to being rich” journal prompts? Yes. But did this, I don’t know, liquid gold oil literally heal my hair? Also, yes. And so I will continue to purchase, even if this has also gone up by $4.
The Skincare:
Topicals Faded Serum for Dark Spots and Discoloration $18
Welp, I have already spent too much time in the sun this spring. I have a Vitamin D deficiency! Sue me! But as a #lightskin the melasma cometh. This would help. This and sunscreen reapplication. Learn from my mistakes!
The Makeup:
My come to Jesus moment would be admitting that I would’ve gone absolutely buckwild on makeup during this sale. But the biggies I was on the hunt for were a versatile but fun eye palette, a nude-ish lip pencil to overline a bit with, and a contour stick. I probably would’ve splurged on the Patrick Ta Double-Take blush palette, because my skin eats up makeup and I need to set things a lot for them to stay. I’ve also been coveting this LYS blush from the depths of TikTok.
What would you have bought in this sale?

What I’m Watching
I had the pleasure of attending a press screening of Are You There God. It’s Me, Margaret? last week and it was the cinematic equivalent of slipping into your favorite old cozy sweater. Coming-of-age films, done well, can transport and act as a healing balm. I left the screening with my inner child marginally healed (Need more therapy.)
I could’ve watched 6 more hours of Rachel McAdams doing her effortless, marvelous, McAdams Thing. Newcomer Abby Ryder Fortson brought so much vulnerability and truth to her role as Margaret. And then you got Benny Safdie as a hot dorky dad! Need I say more? This film made me nostalgic for a place and time I’d never even experienced, and I loved getting whisked away by that magic.
You should also go see the surprisingly fun and heartwarming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Hugh Grant stays in his villain era! Renfield and Air are also on my list.
In TV news, I’m not a Damon Lindelof fan–blaa blaa grief is sad! Mankind is dangerous! Good versus evil! Does God exist?! Blaa blaa–but I did enjoy the first few episodes of Mrs. Davis. It’s got his signature themes, see above, but it’s also got some funky humor, kooky Brian Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Hannibal) tendencies, and overall levity thanks to co-creator Tara Hernandez. But Betty Gilpin is the singular brilliant thread that really ties this operation together.
The Leftovers:
Don’t ask me my opinions on Sophia Richie’s wedding. Okay, fine it was kinda ugly and too Chanel-ified! It was a clear PR stunt! Queen Shannon McNulty put it best here.
DO ask me about the cheateration clearly happening between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. I would say it’s also a PR stunt but her (ex?) fiance was pap’d leaving their home bags in tow and taking the dog!!! Allegedly.
The And Just Like That… trailer debuted. And also just like that, I will be seated yet again. Aidan, Che, and all.
New music from Jessie Ware, Thundercat and Tame Impala, Kesha, Feist, and Beach House. I was lost but now I’m found!
That’s it for this week! If you like my newsletter, please spread the word, like this post, or share on socials!
Have a great weekend!
