This is Fries for the Table, a newsletter about (pop) culture and news from the City of Angels.
A few weeks ago, I slapped together this meme and posted it on my Instagram.
“Apparently I missed the LA Girl meeting where we all decided we were going to start dressing like Chessie (sp) from The Parent Trap.”
Sidebar—yes, the character’s name is CHESSY, not JESSIE (side sidebar, is Chessy short for Chelsea, Chessica?) and yes, the actor that plays Chessy, Lisa Ann Walter is doing fabulous work on Abbott Elementary and YES you should be watching. I digress!
Upon noticing that every LA girl has slowly been donning a casj-uniform comprised of slouchy rolled-sleeves and loose shorts, I made this observation. The throwaway joke was met with much tee-heeing and acknowledgment (I am my own biggest stan.) and even my friends sent me photos of their own Chessy-fications.
And then on a recent trip to Santa Fe, I realized my own Hot Chessy Summer was nigh. Here’s an outfit I wore variations of the entire trip:
Notice the Jenna Lyons-esque sloppy-yet-polished fit. The open button-down and tight-fit tank! (Having big naturals is also a hallmark of the Chessy uniform.)
I would even venture to say the entire The Parent Trap (1998) costume department is bearing significant influence on the sartorial decisions of Los Angeles. Tell me all of the Elysian Park trail doesn’t look like this right now:
Feel free to DM your Hot Chessy Summer looks–I know you’ve got ‘em!
The Leftovers:
My birthday was on June 6th, did your gift get lost in the mail????
I’m really feeling the LA Times new digest/meme account 404. Laughing instead of crying at this one in particular!
I will not stop talking about the very specific (read: mean bitch) vibes at El Prado! Walking through the corridor in front of El Prado is the new walking in front of Figaro! Dark forces! IYKYK!
As this person on Twitter rightfully pointed out, Kyle’s damn dogs.
That’s it for this week! Thanks so much for reading. You can follow me on Instagram (fun stuff) or Twitter (mostly work stuff.) Cya next Friday!
